SU to Mix Q&A

SU to Mix Q&A

After careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to focus fully on building Mix. By focusing on social components and tools for human curation, we now have the opportunity to start fresh. We’ve learned from StumbleUpon that while simplicity and serendipity are important, so is enabling human curation.

Why is enabling human curation important?

On StumbleUpon, more than 90% of the content stumbled was added by the community. This community of curators was an integral part of the StumbleUpon ecosystem. However, there was no good way for us to surface and reward users who shared their favorites finds. On Mix, community is just as important in fueling content discovery and we’re building a community from scratch. With new features like collections, profile pages, social components, and curator tools we'll be equipped with the right features to surface our curators, experts and people in this community.

Why did you shut down StumbleUpon?

As social sites gained in popularity, although we still had a small active StumbleUpon community, our signs of aging began to surface. With older technology and code, there wasn't a way for us to easily add or make changes on StumbleUpon, such as adding a social component. While we had over 35M users on StumbleUpon, sadly many of our users stopped stumbling a few years ago.

We want to take the learnings from StumbleUpon to build the place on the internet to connect people to great content they wouldn't or couldn't find anywhere else.

Why didn't I receive an invite to transfer my Likes?

We sent invites to our active stumblers in accordance to data protection policies in place. The deadline to transfer was 6/30/18. The site is now being decommissioned and we are unable to access any information to migrate or initiate a transfer. We’re sorry if we missed you, and we tried our best to fulfill requests.

Help us build your next favorite place.

We're just getting started here at Mix, it's a net new platform. We've only been open to the public for a few months and we're SO, so excited for what's ahead.

We hope you'll join us on this journey as we work to take content discovery to the next level. We're listening very carefully to our users as we continue to build our new home on the web. Please send us any ideas, suggestions or thoughts.
